Brasília, 29 June 2018 - To discuss international cooperation and sustainable development, the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) received, this Friday (29), at the Centre’s headquarters, Dr.. José Eduardo Malta Sá Brandão, Coordinator of Studies in International Cooperation at Ipea’s Directorate of Studies on Economic Relations and International Policies.

The presentation, entitled “Measures of cooperation for sustainable development: Official Development Assistance (ODA) x Total Official Support for Sustainable Development (TOSSD)” is part of a monthly event called the Seminar Series. The seminars are led by Ipea's Researcher and IPC-IG's Research Associate Dr. Serguei Soares, with the intention of providing researchers – both at the Centre and the community – with recent lectures and discussions on sustainable development and social protection.

As Mr. Soares explained at the beginning of the session, today’s discussion was the first of a series of three presentations on international cooperation. “The next three seminars in the series will be on international cooperation, one held by Agência Brasileira de Cooperação (ABC) and the other by a third relevant institution on the subject.”

Mr. Brandão has been on Ipea for as long as I have, and is one of our best researchers”, Mr. Soares said, as he introduced today’s guest. Mr Brandão holds a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, and is a researcher at Ipea since 1998.

I’ll present a brief introduction of two methodologies on measurement of international cooperation. I’ll talk about their history, do a comparison of both methodologies, as well as tell you about the main controversies and risks of each”, explained Mr. Brandão. “It’s important to remember we cannot see the search for sustainable development as a competition”, he emphasized.
