The report  “Maternidad y paternidad en el lugar de trabajo en América Latina y el Caribe — políticas para la licencia de maternidad y paternidad y apoyo a la lactancia materna”, by Charlotte Bilo (IPC-IG) and Raquel Tebaldi (former IPC-IG researcher), is one of 18 studies selected by the UNICEF Office of Research—Innocenti and the UNICEF Evaluation Office as one of the “most rigorous UNICEF studies with greatest influence on policies and programmes that benefit children” of 2020.

Published in May, the study provides a comprehensive coverage and comparative analysis of current parental leave policies and policies supporting breastfeeding in the workplace across 24 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Reviewers of the Best of UNICEF Research and Evaluation (BOURE) 2020 compilation recognised the report for its ability “to extract very clear recommendations for policy reforms necessary at both the national and regional level for countries to reach minimum international standards”. Reviewers also commented on the report’s engaging structure, particularly the clear way it synthesises information for policy discussion—including the use of a ‘traffic light’ system, enabling easy comparisons regarding how countries are performing across a given variable (click here to read the summary of the study in the BOURE compilation).

The full report is available only in Spanish, but a related Executive Summary can be found in EnglishPortuguese and Spanish. A One Pager is available in four languages: EnglishGermanPortuguese and Spanish. These publications comprise part of the outputs resulting from a partnership between the IPC-IG and UNICEF LACRO. The publications were featured in our bulletin and social media channels: check out our Twitter thread summarising the main findings of the report.
