This is the first of a series of self-paced micro-courses on the subject

Brasília, 13 May—The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG)—with the sponsorship of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)—has launched the first of a series of micro-courses on social protection fundamentals and special topics. It is available at the socialprotection.org platform.

Titled “What is Social Protection? An introduction”, this first micro-course introduces the concept of social protection and discusses how it has changed over time, presenting different approaches and definitions, and discussing its cross-cutting nature. The self-paced course is available in English and is free of charge.

Divided in four lessons, the micro-course presents aspects such as the history of social protection, conceptual approaches, definitions and the relation of social protection to other policy sectors.

With an estimated time of completion of two hours, attendees can choose to start and progress through the course’s content at any time. A certificate will be awarded upon completion of the required activities. A quiz is also available, so attendees can test their knowledge on the subject before beginning the course.
