The goal of this project was to improve the child sensitivity of the M&E systems of Egypt’s flagship cash transfer programmes, Takaful and Karama, as well as analyse the availability of social protection to migrants living in Egypt. The project was developed in coordination with UNICEF Egypt and the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

In 2017-2018 the IPC-IG implemented the project “Review and enhance the child focus of the monitoring and evaluation system of Egypt’s Takaful and Karama Cash Transfer Programmes” with UNICEF Egypt. The IPC-IG reviewed the M&E framework to integrate child indicators (phase I); developed the methodology and tools to collect data on the proposed child indicators and helped the line ministry institutionalize the tool and methodology (phase II); developed capacity strengthening materials and tried to train the trainers on the M&E tool (phase III); developed a reporting tool to regularly monitor child indicators (phase IV); and elaborate two advisory notes on a system to monitor and enforce conditionalities (phase V).  

In another phase of the project (2019-2020), the IPC-IG peer-reviewed 3 poverty studies conducted by UNICEF Egypt: (a) The household poverty dynamics study; (b) The Regional Poverty Dynamics study; (c) The Child poverty dynamics study. Finally, the IPC-IG produced a research report entitled 'Improving social protection for international migrants in Egypt: an overview of international practice', including an executive summary and One Pagers available in English, Arabic and Portuguese. The results of this report were presented in a webinar organised by UNICEF Egypt and IPC-IG.
