By IPC-IG

Registrations are now open for socialprotection.org's Global E-Conference 'Turning the COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity: what's next for social protection?', which will take place on 5, 6 and 8 October 2020. Side events will also be held on 7 October. The aim of the e-conference is to provide an opportunity to evaluate, share experiences and learn about social protection responses to COVID-19, as well as discuss the future of social protection in a post-pandemic scenario.

The event will include a mix of panel sessions with inputs from policymakers and practitioners from countries all over the world, as well as international development partners and researchers, and collaborative interactive sessions among all attendees, guided by experts on specific topics. A range of methodologies and tools will be employed to provide each attendee with the opportunity to create their own personal learning and sharing journey.

Attendees will be able to pick from sessions in different time zones, languages (English, French and Spanish) and formats, from regional and global panels to thematic sessions and expert clinics. On the registration page you will find the event programme, featuring an explanation of the different session formats.

On the event´s second day, there will be thematic clinics where experts will offer tailored advice on specific practical issues related to the design and implementation of social protection responses to COVID-19. You can send your questions in advance by clicking on this link, choosing the clinic to which you want to send questions, and clicking on the link "Q&A – Question Submissions". Don´t forget to also register for each clinic you want to participate in, by accessing it through the event´s programme. Please note that each clinic will take place at two different times during the day to allow for global participation.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently faced with a tremendous opportunity for change that must not be wasted. The lessons learned from this event will help move us towards more adequate, comprehensive and high-coverage social protection in the future. The event will also be a chance to celebrate the achievements of the socialprotection.org platform over its five years of activity.

socialprotection.org is an online, member-based, knowledge-sharing and capacity-building platform, open to social protection practitioners, policymakers, and experts, as well as academics and students. The platform was set up to respond to a recommendation from the G20 Development Working Group in the aftermath of the triple crisis of the late 2000s to foster global knowledge sharing on social protection policies. It is hosted by the IPC-IG and funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia
